MultiMap Crackle pops for the MQB Platform
Multi-Map Crackle Pops — A First for the MQB Platform
Boost Dynamic Tuning is the first tuner on the MQB platform to offer selectable multi-level crackle and overrun maps.
Five modes. Off to Flames. Switch on the fly. No reflash needed.
This one's been a long time coming, and we're proud to finally share it.
Boost Dynamic Tuning is officially the first tuner on the Volkswagen/Audi MQB platform to offer multi-map crackle pops — selectable overrun levels that you can switch between on the fly using your cruise control stalk. No reflash. No laptop. No pulling over. Just flick and go.
Other tuners give you one crackle setting — take it or leave it. We built five distinct overrun profiles and put the control in your hands. Want it completely off for the morning commute? Done. Subtle burbles around town? Low mode. Want to light up a parking garage at a meet? Switch to Flames. It's that simple.
Hear It for Yourself
We recorded this the day the calibration went live. Five levels, same car, back to back. Turn your volume up.
Five Modes — One Stalk
Every BDT multi-map calibration includes five crackle profiles that you can cycle through using the cruise control stalk. Each mode changes the overrun behavior — from completely off to full-on flames.
All levels are active in Dynamic/Sport mode only. Switch to Comfort or Auto and the car stays quiet and refined — exactly how it should be. The crackle calibration is designed with safety logic that reduces overrun if exhaust temperatures climb too high, so you get the sound without the risk.
Why This Is a Big Deal
Until now, MQB crackle tunes were one-size-fits-all. Your tuner gave you a single crackle map baked into the calibration — and if it was too loud for your taste or too quiet for your exhaust setup, tough luck. You were stuck with it unless you wanted to schedule another flash session.
BDT's multi-map approach changes that completely. The five crackle profiles are embedded directly in your ECU calibration alongside your power maps. Switching between them is instant and seamless — the same way you'd switch between a daily map and a race map. No downtime. No appointments. No extra charge.
This is how crackle tunes should have been built from the start.
How Map Switching Works
It's built into your cruise control stalk.
After your ECU is flashed with a BDT multi-map calibration, you can cycle through your available maps using the cruise control buttons. Each map can have its own power level, crackle setting, and feature configuration. The switch is instantaneous — no restart, no delay, no reflash.
BDT can also configure custom map layouts per your request. Want Map 1 as a quiet daily with no pops, Map 2 as a full-power race map with crackles, and Map 3 as a valet mode? We build it to your spec.
Available Platforms
Multi-map crackle pops are now available across the full BDT MQB lineup:
- MK7 / MK7.5 Volkswagen GTI (2015–2021)
- MK7 / MK7.5 Volkswagen Golf R (2015–2021)
- Audi S3 8V (2015–2021)
- Audi A3 8V (2015–2021)
If your car is on the MQB platform and you're running a BDT calibration, you're eligible. Already tuned with us? Contact BDT about a retune to add multi-map crackle switching to your existing calibration.
A Note on Exhaust
Crackle intensity scales directly with your exhaust setup. On a stock exhaust, even Intense mode will sound relatively tame — the factory mufflers and resonators absorb a lot of the overrun energy. With a high-flow exhaust or catback, the difference is night and day. If you're running a more aggressive setup, you'll get the full experience from every level.
