How Your Tune Gets Delivered

Two options. Pick whichever works better for you.

Option 1 — PnP (Plug & Play) ECU

1

Order & Specify Your Build — Select stage, fuel, and any custom options at checkout.

2

BDT Flashes & Ships — We flash a pre-programmed ECU with Immobilizer Off and ship it to you.

3

Unplug Old ECU — Located under the hood or passenger-side footwell depending on year.

4

Plug In the BDT ECU — Snap the harness, bolt it down, start the car, drive away.

Why PnP? No laptop, no scheduled session, no TeamViewer. The ECU arrives ready to go with Immobilizer Off so it starts the car clean. Best option for older MK4s where remote flashing can be finicky.

Option 2 — Remote OBDII Flash

1

Schedule Your Flash — After purchase, scan the QR code or contact BDT to book your appointment.

2

Download TeamViewer — Install on your Windows laptop. BDT remotes in to run the flash software.

3

Hook Up Battery Charger — Positive first, then negative. Stable voltage is critical.

4

Turn Car to Accessory Mode — Key in ignition. Do not start the engine.

5

Plug In OBDII Cable — Connect to the OBDII port (driver side, under dash).

6

BDT Takes Remote Control — We handle everything. You watch the entire process live.

7

Key Off on Command — When BDT says “turn key off,” do it immediately.

8

Disconnect & Drive — Unplug OBDII, remove charger (negative first, then positive), start the car, enjoy.

HOW REMOTE TUNING WORKS

Post-Flash Note: You may see a few fault codes after flashing — this is normal. They clear after a short drive cycle.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this tune for my car? What’s the AWD head code?
A: This listing is specifically for 2000–2001 MK4 vehicles with the AWD cylinder head code. The AWD code is the US-market MK4 1.8T spec. Check your engine tag — if it says AWD, you’re in the right place. Other codes (AEB, AWP, AWW, etc.) need a different file.

Q: PnP ECU or remote flash — which should I pick?
A: PnP is the simplest — we ship you a pre-flashed ECU with Immobilizer Off, you unbolt old, bolt new. Best for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with laptops or appointments. Remote OBDII flash keeps your original ECU — good if you want to preserve the factory unit. Both get you the same tune.

Q: What mods are required for Stage 1?
A: Just an upgraded diverter valve and BKR7EIX spark plugs (.028 gap). Stock turbo, stock intake, stock exhaust all supported.

Q: What mods are required for Stage 2?
A: High-flow cat / exhaust, upgraded diverter valve, and BKR7EIX plugs. Intercooler highly recommended.

Q: What mods are required for Stage 3?
A: A full big-turbo build: upgraded turbo (K04, GT28, GT30+), intake, intercooler, high-flow exhaust, upgraded DV, properly sized injectors, and a manual boost controller. See the Stage 3 mod requirements table for details.

Q: Does the PnP ECU really start the car without dealer programming?
A: Yes. Immobilizer Off is enabled on every PnP ECU we ship — no SKC, no dealer trip, no cluster reprogramming. Plug it in and go.

Q: What is the Mafless option?
A: Mafless calibration lets the tune run without a mass airflow sensor — useful if you’re running a MAF-less setup or want a simpler intake path. Available on all stages.

Q: How does No-Lift-Shift work?
A: NLS lets you shift gears without lifting off the throttle. The ECU cuts fuel/spark momentarily to keep the turbo spooled — zero boost drop between gears. Big time-saver on launches.

Q: What fuel do I need?
A: 91 or 93 octane for all stages. Lower octane will pull timing and hurt power output.

Q: Do I need a Windows computer?
A: Only for the remote OBDII flash option. Windows required, Mac not supported, 50+ Mbps internet and 8GB+ RAM needed. PnP ECU requires no computer.

IF YOU WANT YOUR CAR TO SURVIVE, THESE MUST BE DONE!

We want your MK4 1.8T to live a long, happy tuned life. These intervals come from years of tuning 1.8T cars. If these aren’t kept up, failures happen — and it won’t be the tune.
